We think that New Orleans is an amazing place to visit any time of year, but if you’ve never been for Mardi Gras before, you’ve got to give it a try. From parades to museum exhibits, you can learn about the history of Carnival, then experience it first hand. The traditional parades such as Endymion, Orpheus and Bacchus are a must-see, but also check out the smaller krewes like Krewe de Vieux, Nyx, Muses and Cleopatra. There’s also Family Gras in Metairie, Feb. 17-19, a free celebration of carnival and family that takes place on the neutral ground of Veterans Memorial Boulevard across from Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie.
