Pinch A Palooza will kick off Festival Season in Bucktown

Just in time for the start of festival season in New Orleans, which kicks off with the 32nd-annual French Quarter Festival, Deanie’s Seafood will present its sixth-annual Pinch A Palooza Festival & Crawfish Eating Contest on Sun., April 19 at Deanie’s in Bucktown. A free street party celebrating Louisiana music and crawfish, Pinch A Palooza runs from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and features six bands and a full afternoon of activities. Admission is free.

This year Pinch A Palooza will take fest-goers back to traditional Southern and New Orleans roots with a lineup that includes Cajun fiddler and hometown sweetheart Amanda Shaw, Louisiana Music Hall of Famer Vince Vance and The Valiants, New Orleans Karma, Cajun Zydeco band Chansons et Soûlards, Jackson, Miss.-based bluegrass duo Bill & Temperance, plus performances by Mardi Gras Indians krewe Big Chief Romeo & the Ninth Ward Hunters and the 610 Stompers.

Known as New Orleans’ go-to place for boiled crawfish, Deanie’s introduced Pinch A Palooza to New Orleans in 2010, and it has become the fastest-growing festival in the region, drawing more than 3,000 locals to Deanie’s original restaurant location. The crawfish eating contest will feature two heats of contestants challenged to be the first to finish pinching and eating 5 lbs. of boiled crawfish followed by a 10-minute championship round to crown the 2015 Pinch A Palooza Crawfish Eating Contest Winner. Other Pinch A Palooza entertainment includes crawfish races and activities for kids, an art market, and photos and hugs from Deanie’s mascot Pincher the Crawfish.  In addition to Deanie’s crawfish specialties such as Crawfish Nachos and Fried Crawfish Po-Boys,  Pinch A Palooza will host the culinary offerings of New Orleans Center for Creative Arts’ (NOCCA) Boxcar food truck, new this year plus beer, soda and specialty cocktails.
