crawfish festival games, Jr. crawfish eating contest
The eighth-annual Pinch A Palooza Festival & Crawfish-Eating Contest returns to the shores of Lake Pontchartrain for a day of family friendly fun! This festival celebrating Louisiana’s unique delicacy takes place all day Sunday, April 23—from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Deanie’s Seafood Restaurant in Bucktown.
With over 5,000 pounds of boiled Louisiana crawfish, live music, and a variety of activities for fun-lovers of all ages, it’s the can’t-miss family event of the festival season. And best of all… it’s FREE!
CRAWFISH RACES FOR KIDS
On your mark… get set…Go! Children can select their mudbugs and line them up for an epic crawfish race to the finish line. Cheer on the competing crustaceans from the sidelines, or get in there and pick a winner! It’s all in good fun, and the kids love getting up close and personal with the live crawfish. Prizes will be awarded to the winners!
JR CRAWFISH EATING CONTEST
This year, Pinch A Palooza will host a Junior Crawfish Eating Contest, open to children age 6-12! Contestants will have 5-minutes to peel and eat 3 lbs. of Boiled Crawfish. Register your crawfish-loving kid at the event to compete for the title of Deanie’s Pinch A Palooza 2017 Junior Champ. The crawfish eating competition for kids takes place at noon! The winner receives a Lil’ Bit Crawfish Boil Set and a year of Free Kids Meals at Deanie’s (maximum 2 meals per month for 12 months, dine in only)!
FAMILY FRIENDLY LIVE MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT
This year’s Pinch A Palooza features some of the best local talent around New Orleans —from Louisiana cajun fiddler Amanda Shaw & The Cute Guys, to breakout rock & funk band Flow Tribe, to the legendary Vince Vance & The Valiants, to local favorite Rockin’ Dopsie & The Zydeco Twisters and popular Top 40’s band The Benchwarmers. Kids can dance to the music along with the 610 Stompers, and work up an appetite for all the crawfish menu items available.
FOOD & REFRESHMENTS
At Pinch A Palooza, you can find Deanie’s crawfish specialties like crawfish nachos, crawfish balls, fried crawfish tails, crawfish etouffee, and thousands of pounds of fresh boiled Louisiana Crawfish served with corn and potatoes for every member of the family to enjoy. Some Pinch a Palooza attendees have even tried their very first crawfish at this festival… maybe your child or family member will too!
GAMES & OTHER KIDS’ ACTIVITIES
This year’s Pinch A Palooza features games and other entertainment for the underage crowd. Children can get their faces painted, visit and take photos with Pincher the Crawfish, and even check out the art market for more family fun. There will also be free inflatables for the kids.
ONSITE METAIRIE BANK ATM, CONVENIENT PORTALETS
Pinch A Palooza also will have a convenient ATM van on site thanks to our sponsor Metairie Bank, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary, as well as several portalets and hand-washing stations for our outdoor event.
