Crawfish Eating Contests for Kids and Adults; Cowboy Mouth Headlines
METAIRIE, LA. —(March 28, 2017)—Just in time for crawfish season, Deanie’s Seafood Restaurant presents the 9th-annual Pinch A Palooza Festival & Crawfish Eating Contest on on Sun., April 22 at Deanie’s Seafood Restaurant & Seafood Market in Bucktown. Pinch A Palooza 2018 will feature live performances by The Topcats, Bucktown All-Stars, Vince Vance & The Valiants, Cowboy Mouth, and more—plus the 9th-annual Pinch A Palooza Crawfish Eating Contest.
The free outdoor seafood festival takes place from noon to 8 p.m., Sun., April 22 at Deanie’s Seafood’s original restaurant and seafood market in Bucktown, 1713 Lake Ave., Metairie. Admission is free.
The Pinch A Palooza Kids Crawfish Eating Contest returns for its second year. Crawfish lovers age 6 to 12 can enter the day of the festival to compete for the title of Pinch A Palooza 2018 Junior Crawfish Eating Champion. The $5 kids contest registration fee includes a Pinch A Palooza T-shirt. The festival also offers the only Live Crawfish Tic Tac Toe table in the world!
Adults 18 and up can enter to compete in the Pinch A Palooza Crawfish Eating Contest at Pinchapalooza.com. The contest includes two heats and a final round, and the Pinch A Palooza Champion and Runner Up will receive great prizes, including a grand prize of a crawfish boil for 20 people provided by Deanie’s Seafood. Registration is $20 per person, and each contestant receives a Pinch A Palooza T-shirt and koozie.

Actor, comedian, host and New Orleans native Johnny Rock will emcee Pinch A Palooza for the second year, and the all-male dance krewe the 610 Stompers, which has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to local charities and performed at countless events since starting out in 2009, will perform on the Pinch A Palooza stage for the 7th year!
Headliner and New Orleans-based rockers Cowboy Mouth—led by singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Fred LeBlanc—have performed for more than 9 million fans over their 25+-year career. Always a crowd pleaser, the band’s spotlight success “Jenny Says,” which climbed into the upper half of the Billboard rock charts in the early nineties, will be sure to rock the house.

A variety of Deanie’s crawfish specialties will be available for purchase, including hot boiled Louisiana Crawfish served with corn and potatoes, crawfish nachos, crawfish balls, fried crawfish tails, crawfish étouffée, plus a selection of non-seafood items, draft beer and specialty cocktails.
DEANIE’S BUCKTOWN PHILANTHROPIC TRUST CONTRIBUTES TO LOCAL GROUPS
Pinch A Palooza is a crawfish celebration and festival during “Louisiana Crawfish Awareness Month” and philanthropic event that helps raise awareness and support of local charitable organizations through Deanie’s Seafood’s Bucktown Philanthropic Trust. Pinch A Palooza 2018 will support The Good Shepherd Nativity Mission School, a faith-based elementary school serving low-income families in New Orleans.

Deanie’s Seafood Restaurants & Seafood Market introduced Pinch A Palooza in 2010 in celebration of Louisiana crawfish and New Orleans music and culture. Typically held at the start of New Orleans’ festival season the weekend between French Quarter Festival and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Deanie’s Seafood’s Pinch A Palooza fest draws nearly 5,000 people to the the fishing village of Bucktown to get their crawfish fix during the peak of Crawfish Season, which runs from February through June.

APRIL IS LOUISIANA CRAWFISH AWARENESS MONTH
Deanie’s Seafood—recognized as one of the best places for boiled crawfish and one of the first restaurants in the Greater New Orleans region to serve boiled seafood—sought a resolution naming April “Louisiana Crawfish Awareness Month” in 2015.
Crawfish Awareness Month recognizes Louisiana fishermen who contribute to the state’s $200 million per year crawfish industry and highlights the “State Crustacean” and Louisiana’s Cajun French heritage.
“Crawfish and seafood have a strong economic and cultural role in the lives of Louisianans, and this role is typified by family owned restaurants in Louisiana, such as Deanie’s Seafood Restaurants and Seafood Market, where Louisiana’s culture of strong family and community ties combines with culinary heritage and traditions,” the resolution reads.
