Spring in New Orleans means Festivals, Food, and Fun
Spring is a wonderful time to be in New Orleans. The Crescent City is known for its fantastic music and food, and you can choose from an array of NOLA events and festivals almost every weekend in April and May. Some are long-standing traditions in this community, with dedicated fans who attend every year, and other newer events have popped up recently. One thing is for certain… Spring is the best season to find fun things to do in New Orleans.
NOLA EVENTS FOR MUSIC LOVERS
From Jazz, to funk, to rock, to R&B, and everything in between, you’ll find it here in New Orleans. Deanie’s Seafood will host its annual Pinch A Palooza Crawfish Festival on April 23, featuring a packed schedule of local music, plus 5,000 pounds of boiled crawfish! This family friendly festival will feature performances by seven local bands including Flow Tribe, Amanda Shaw & The Cute Guys, Vince Vance & the Valiants, and Rockin’ Dopsie & The Zydeco Twisters, plus a Crawfish Eating Contest (this year they’ll introduce a Kids Crawfish Eating Contest for ages 6-12!). It’s a day-long event filled with music, food, and fun for the whole family.
Several free weekly music series take place around town in the evenings, like Jazz in the Park and Wednesdays at the Square. You’ve probably heard of the two BIG food and music festivals in April, which usually take place on the weekends surrounding Easter and attract visitors from around the world, French Quarter Festival April 7-10 and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, April 27 through May 7.

FOOD AND WINE EVENTS IN NEW ORLEANS
Speaking of Easter, New Orleans celebrates this holiday with a plethora of parades, costumes, egg hunts, and family fun. If you haven’t already made a reservation for Easter brunch, you’ll want to get moving because many restaurants will fill up quickly (and finding a place that will accommodate a walk-in may be hard). Other fabulous cocktail and wine events include New Orleans Wine & Food Experience, and “Sippin’ in Seersucker” at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. New Orleans offers many unique and wonderful options for spending Mother’s Day, whether you want to treat your mom to a nice meal, a spa day, or a concert at the Audubon Zoo. With so many activities taking place, the possibilities are endless! (photo by nola.com)
