As a participant of the Louisiana Wild Seafood Certification Program (LWSCP), Deanie’s was invited to take part in “Catch Louisiana,” featuring New York Times journalist and James Beard award-winning author Paul Greenberg, an event discussing issues of seafood sustainability. Catch Louisiana showcased Greenberg’s best-selling book on sustainable U.S. seafood, “American Catch: The Fight for Our Local Seafood.”

Eating fish is healthy and easy in the Gulf Region

In recent years, people have become more conscious of healthy eating and want to eat lighter foods. The American Heart Association recommends eating fish at least two times per week. This means two servings of 3.5 ounces of cooked fish or about ¾ cup of flaked fish.

Fish is an excellent source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids and it’s usually low in saturated fat. Eating fish is believed to reduce the risk of dying of heart disease, and a recent study found eating baked or broiled fish weekly boosts brain health.

NEW ORLEANS-September 6, 2014-Deanie's Seafood Restaurant in the French Quarter, 841 Iberville St., kicks off another season as Saints Radio Headquarters with live broadcast of Saints Radio Network's “The Point After” Show beginning with the season opener matchup of the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons on Sun., Sept. 7 in Atlanta.

Again this season, Deanie's Seafood is host to "The Point After" radio show featuring former New Orleans Saints quarterback Cajun Cannon Bobby Hebert and commentator Big Chief Deke Bellavia that broadcasts live on the Saints Radio Network immediately following every New Orleans Saints game.

Aug. 1, 2014--The idea of sustainability is getting more attention as restaurants and other businesses make sustainable sourcing of seafood a priority. Seafood harvested in the United States under goes a rigorous management process to ensure the seafood you eat in your home or restaurant will be available for generations to come.

Sustainability also plays a large role in our region’s economy: Louisiana’s seafood industry, not including imports, generated 30,676 jobs in the state in 2011, and Louisiana leads the Gulf states in seafood sales with nearly $1.5 billion in sales in 2011. The voluntary Louisiana Seafood Certification Program guarantees that seafood bearing the “Certified Authentic Louisiana Wild Seafood” label is caught in the Gulf of Mexico or Gulf Coast state waters by Louisiana licensed fishermen and is landed, processed, and packaged in Louisiana.
