Making heads or tails of a Louisiana delicacy

There’s a saying by some Texas newcomers, “I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could.” Well, I’m from Texas and my saying goes a bit different: “I wasn’t born a Cajun, but I married one as fast as I could.” And nothing makes me think more lovingly about my Louisiana wedding day than listening to some Wayne Toups over a big platter of boiled crawfish. 

Crawfish are just part of the Louisiana DNA. And now that they’re growing wild in one of the state’s most profitable revenue streams, people from all over the country are getting a little crawfish boil in their veins—and eating it up. Which makes the crawfish farmers, processors and distributors in Louisiana a pretty good living.

Eating fish is healthy and easy in the Gulf Region

In recent years, people have become more conscious of healthy eating and want to eat lighter foods. The American Heart Association recommends eating fish at least two times per week. This means two servings of 3.5 ounces of cooked fish or about ¾ cup of flaked fish.

Fish is an excellent source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids and it’s usually low in saturated fat. Eating fish is believed to reduce the risk of dying of heart disease, and a recent study found eating baked or broiled fish weekly boosts brain health.

Deanie's is Saints Radio Post-Game Headquarters for 'The Point After'

NEW ORLEANS-September 6, 2014-Deanie's Seafood Restaurant in the French Quarter, 841 Iberville St., kicks off another season as Saints Radio Headquarters with live broadcast of Saints Radio Network's “The Point After” Show beginning with the season opener matchup of the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons on Sun., Sept. 7 in Atlanta.

Again this season, Deanie's Seafood is host to "The Point After" radio show featuring former New Orleans Saints quarterback Cajun Cannon Bobby Hebert and commentator Big Chief Deke Bellavia that broadcasts live on the Saints Radio Network immediately following every New Orleans Saints game.

FOX 8 anchor Greg Adaline tries raw oysters for the first time at Deanie's

NEW ORLEANS—September 3, 2014—New Orleans' WVUE Fox 8 recently brought their new anchor Greg Adaline to Deanie's Seafood in Bucktown to experience Louisiana seafood and raw oysters for the first time. A recent Michigan transplant, Greg is new to the food and culture of New Orleans.

The Fox 8 team took Greg around the city to give him a taste of the quintessential New Orleans experiences. Greg and co-anchor Shelley Brown visited the original Deanie's Seafood's original location in Bucktown, where they sampled our fried Crab Claws, Seafood Gumbo, our famous fried Seafood Platter, Coconut Custard Bread Pudding and, for Greg's first time, Raw Oysters. Co-anchor, Shelley Brown explains to Greg that in New Orleans, "We live to eat." Greg's Deanie's favorites were the Crawfish Dressing Balls on our Seafood Platter and Deanie's Seafood Gumbo.
