NEW ORLEANS—(May 22, 2019)—The Chifici Family, local owner/operators of Deanie's Seafood Restaurants, is celebrating its 37-year anniversary running New Orleans' favorite seafood restaurant, the original Deanie’s Seafood Restaurant & Market in Bucktown.

The Chificis have built a locally owned, family-operated business employing more than 300 New Orleanians and serving nearly 1 million visitors and locals annually. Deanie’s Seafood Proprietor Barbara A. “Mrs. Barbara” Chifici runs Deanie’s Restaurants with five of her seven children. The business now includes three locations in New Orleans, a successful catering business, plus a fresh seafood market and online seafood business, Shopdeanies.com.

Pinch A Palooza Festival 2019 - April 20 in Bucktown

New Orleans’ favorite family seafood restaurant will be firing up the boil pots for its 10th-annual neighborhood crawfish festival, Pinch A Palooza Festival & Crawfish Eating Contest, noon to 7 p.m., Sun., April 20 in Bucktown. Deanie’s Seafood Restaurant in Bucktown—the original location of the well-known seafood restaurant with three locations in and around New Orleans—will continue the tradition of celebrating the Bucktown community and delicious local crawfish with a day of live music and entertainment, a Crawfish Eating Contest, and plenty of crawfish specialties and libations. Actor and comedian Johnny Rock will emcee Pinch A Palooza.

Louisiana Blue Crab Ban has Crabbers, Restaurants Feeling Blue

Deanie’s is serving gulf crab through temporary season closure

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission has instituted a 30-day ban on commercial crabbing due to a decline in the Louisiana blue crab population from overfishing. A year-round ban also began Jan. 1 on commercial harvest of immature female blue crabs, except for those being held for processing of soft shell crabs.

The 30-day ban on commercial crabbing in Louisiana waters runs from Feb. 20 to March 22 and will be imposed annually for three years, ending in 2019.

Crawfish Love fest: Pinch A Palooza Festival is April 17

7th-annual festival celebrates Louisiana crawfish season

A family friendly seafood festival celebrating Louisiana’s unique delicacy comes once again to the shores of Lake Pontchartrain just in time for Louisiana Crawfish Awareness Month. The seventh-annual Pinch A Palooza Festival, presented by Deanie’s Seafood Restaurants, takes place 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Sun., April 17 at Deanie's Seafood Restaurant in Bucktown, 1713 Lake Ave., Metairie. Admission is free. Information is available at Pinchapalooza.com.

This year’s Pinch A Palooza features seven bands, the seventh-annual Pinch A Palooza Crawfish Eating Contest, crawfish races and games for the kids, an art market and Deanie’s crawfish specialties, including crawfish nachos, crawfish balls, fried crawfish tails, and thousands of pounds of fresh boiled Louisiana Crawfish served with corn and potatoes.
