Winter NOLA events celebrate food, culture, music

There’s never a shortage of fun things to do in New Orleans. Whether you’re visiting the city for the first time or a seasoned local, you can pick from tons of awesome NOLA events on any given weekend!

With Carnival Season in full swing, the entire city will soon be gearing up for nonstop parades, king cakes, and other celebratory gatherings. There is a range of both indoor as well as outdoor activities through the months of January, February and March, which should help you cope with the recent temperature fluctuations.  No matter how wacky the weather is, you can find something unique and colorful to do in the Crescent City.

We think that New Orleans is an amazing place to visit any time of year, but if you’ve never been for Mardi Gras before, you’ve got to give it a try. From parades to museum exhibits, you can learn about the history of Carnival, then experience it first hand. The traditional parades such as Endymion, Orpheus and Bacchus are a must-see, but also check out the smaller krewes like Krewe de Vieux, Nyx, Muses and Cleopatra. There’s also Family Gras in Metairie, Feb. 17-19, a free celebration of carnival and family that takes place on the neutral ground of Veterans Memorial Boulevard across from Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie.
