Celebrate tradition with New Orleans Thanksgiving recipes

Thanksgiving is a time to relax with friends and family, reflect on the year’s blessings, and honor culinary traditions by pulling out your New Orleans Thanksgiving recipes. Whether that’s your grandmother’s green bean casserole, your sister-in-law’s gravy, or your neighbor’s six different types of pie, it’s our traditions that bring us comfort—especially in Louisiana!

Often it’s the Thanksgiving sides that steal the show, and more often than not, those dishes include a taste of the fresh local seafood available this time of year, including crab, shrimp and oysters. We love our local specialties like oyster dressing, stuffed crab, sweet potato casserole, seafood gumbo, and crawfish étouffée.

At Deanies, we’re proud of our history in New Orleans, and we want to bring our time-honored traditions to YOUR home this holiday season. Our Holiday Take Home Menu is available again this year for Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations with many entrees like our fried turkeys,  smoked turkeys, and smoked Boston Butt and beef brisket, plus traditional sides and desserts prepared from scratch.  Place your order today —and then sit back and impress your guests at the dinner table on Thanksgiving Day. We won’t tell!

One of our favorite dishes on the Take Home Menu is our Shrimp & Crab Stuffed Mirlitons. Mirliton, pronounced Mella-ton, originated in Central America and are also referred to as vegetable pears and chayote squash. They have a delicate flavor and can be prepared the same way as a summer squash.

Our take on the classic dish is always a crowd pleaser,  and a true heirloom Thanksgiving recipe.  You can order it from us for the big day, or make it yourself using our holiday recipe below!
